Salli's Messy Little Blog (Guaranteed 100% Non-allergenic)

It's been a while since I put up anything pretty.
Let's fix that, then.

I am thoroughly pleased with this set. It's the first time I've ever designed something as a set, instead of putting dolls together after the fact, or making a couple and then getting the idea to top it off with a third. The general idea was to mesh the colors and clothing style, and I carefully considered poses for presentation.

It's also been a while since I did a character post, so how about a bit of that, too?

Deryn, the lady in the flowing dress, you might remember as my phoenix character. What this entails is too complicated to go into, but she often pretends to minor magical skills to account for the aura of magic about her. In this case, she's pretend to be a minor magician in their entertainment troupe. (Animated versions of the group and the individual doll are impressive, but enormous.) Mira and Kit think she's some kind of fire mage (as Deryn Brightsword she spent the first part of her life as a blacksmith, making something interesting enchanted weapons). Lindriel surely knows better.

Moving right, we have Lindriel, of course, with all the baggage and fancy titles appropriate for a thousand-year-old character in a sweeping epic fantasy. (We won't go into the Daughter of the Sky King business today.) Lindriel most often appears as a storyteller or bard named Linna, and in this case she's traveling with the group. They know she's something special, but probably not what at this point in the story.

Kit, or Kiteya, would like to let you know that she doesn't really have a tatoo. It's part of the costume. Also she never wears her hair down, or outfits so silly. She's a professional soldier, and she doesn't really approve of all this nonsense. I really enjoyed drawing her hair down long... it's supposed to be her most attractive feature, but she doesn't usually show it off.

Mira Sarth is the human protagonist, a young, barely trained seeress who usually wears more ladylike clothing. I'd like her to be an acrobat to complete the set, but probably she's Deryn's assistant. I haven't figured out how to work tumbling skills into the character.

Variation in skin color didn't survive the GIF forum, although there wouldn't have been much. Kit surely has a tan, but Lindriel and Deryn are apt to look exactly how they want to look. The abundance of brownish hair is rare appropriate to the setting. Brown hair is the norm in their part of the world. Mira got her greyish eyes from her seeress mother, Deryn is a phoenix (this incarnation does have browner hair, at least at this point), and "Linna" isn't at all human.

To Do: Take shower. Go shopping. Clean room. Find hose for teacher holiday dinner. Collect addresses for Christmas cards. Determine who will be back in state for Christmas, for possible visiting purposes.
